7 Ways To Live Like #EmilyinParis On A Staycation
Emily in Paris? More like in Pasir Ris. While we wait for travelling to be safe again, here’s 7 ways to recreate your Emily in Paris moment on a staycation in Singapore.
#1 La vie en rose
Bonjour! It’s the start of a brand new day, and a perfect staycation. As the morning light peeps through the curtains and finds its way to you, start your day by putting on a French music playlist and begin your daily routine. *cue Edith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose*
#2 Dress like a Parisienne
With the city defending its title of world capital of fashion – chic, practical and presentable, you definitely can’t leave out your Parisian wardrobe.
For a louder look, channel your inner Emily with her iconic red beret and an eclectic mix of statement-making colours and prints. Plus a special mention to her Audrey Hepburn-inspired look – perfect for a fancy night out!
#3 Bon appétit
Though we may not have Emily’s attractive chef neighbour to whip up a table of authentic French dishes, that is hardly a concern with the diverse culinary scene in Singapore. Starting with the bread and butter of every French breakfast table, you just can’t say non to French pastries! Head over to Tiong Bahru Bakery for their signature kouign-amann and the pain au chocolat that Emily raved about in the Netflix series.
If that was too ringarde for you, start off a lazy morning with brunch at a French café like Merci Marcel or French Fold instead. You may be pleased to know that Merci Marcel has three outlets – Tiong Bahru, Orchard and Club Street, with variations in their menu and interior.
Alfresco dining is also a reflection of French living so ask for outdoor seating to immerse in the full Parisian experience. Soak up some sunlight, surround yourself with picturesque views; and let the tranquil atmosphere wash away your stress on this staycation.
#4 Musée d’art
Visit Singapore’s version of the Louvre at the National Gallery Singapore, which oversees the world’s largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern art. The Gallery also works with international museums such as Musée d’Orsay in Paris, bringing art from all over the world closer to you.
If you have watched Emily in Paris, you’d probably remember the Van Gogh, the Starry Night exhibit at the Atelier des Lumières. As the first ever museum dedicated to the interplay between art and science, the ArtScience Museum in Singapore is also known for holding immersive digital exhibitions – and Vincent Van Gogh’s works are no stranger to us too.
#5 Roses from the south
Markets are a popular concept in Paris and if you have a penchant for filling your room with floral scents, head out to these hidden flower markets in Singapore for the freshest flowers in town. Or your nearest FairPrice outlet would work as well!
#6 Paris, the "City of Love"
Affectionately referred to as the City of Love, there is one place in Singapore that best encapsulates this amorous fame that Paris has earned for itself – CHIJMES. From now till January 3, the CHIJMES lawn is transformed into the Land of Flowers, with instagram-worthy dining domes for an unforgettable night.
#7 Santé (Cheers to good health!)
In France, sipping wine is a way of life. Not surprising if you had seen Emily and Mindy enjoy some breakfast wine together. And it’s time to end your city adventure – switch out Emily’s arresting coat collection for your hotel’s bathrobe because all that’s left is a glass of wine in your hand.
Voilà! And there you have it – your share of Parisian adventures without a worry of any social or cultural faux pas during your staycation in Singapore. Bonne journée – have a nice day!
